G'day folks.

I've finally managed to get Bayeux to the beta stage.

bayeux_beta1

(I hope I've packed the files correctly)

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I attempted to play the map and received the following fatal error:

"Mod_NumForName: models/respite/xen_tree7_1.mdl not found"

i dont usually unzip straight to the tf folder so not sure if there`s a problem there.

shaun nice work m8, cant wait to playtest it.

noticed 1 thing for now, the turret gun in respawn on cap 1 can kill you outside of the tunnel, might need a tweak to the right.

I still had a problem with WinAce unzipping the models directory. I had to manually move the models files in the right place to get it to work. And now for my review:

WOW! I can tell this is going to be a very fun and fast-paced map. When I first started playing the map, my first reaction was "EEK! It's Respite and Momentum combined!". But then I started playing it for about an hour and really got a sense of the flow of this map.

This map has all the signatures of Kes.id. However, Respite had inconsistent architecture and map flow, like each cap area was an experiment. [Don't get me wrong, Respite still rocks.] In this map, the architecture and map flow is very consistent Also, the ceilings are nice and high and the openings are very wide and easy to maneuver within, unlike Momentum which is like a maze of death and chokepoints (but that's still fun too tongue.gif ). I get the sense that this will be a very O-friendly map [opinion subject to change with actual playtesting], because it is very easy and fast to rocket run and pickup packs along the way. And you can surprise the Defense a LOT with the plethora of ways to jump.

But speaking of jumps, I think there needs to be a few more constraints to make the jumping a touch more challenging. For example - Cap 1 can be capped right from the starting gate: http://media.putfile.com/bayeux_cap1
A good jumper or demo+flagrunner combo team will make this cap short lived. Now - I hate invisible walls that were put in to block jumps (ala osaka_l or pdh_r) so I hope you can avoid doing that. Maybe throw another high bridge in the path?

Also - all the clotheslines are "transparent". You should consider making them able to block you ala Cornfield Cap 2. They didn't call the wrestling move "the clothesline" for nothing! ;P

Cap 2 and 3 can both be capped in a single jump around a corner and I was about to suggest maybe making them more difficult to cap, but after thinking about it they are more like fancy Avanti Cap 3 jump thru the railing type deals. In other words, If you can pull it off - good for you. But its still tricky enough for the D to cut you down in time.

Cap 4 - I LOVE the church. Very nicely done. And OMG, the dettable wall!

Much more subtle and interesting than the "Place Det Here" sign. Considering where this path leads, this is certain to bring utter chaos in the church.

But Cap 4 has some sticky points. At first, I was really disappointed that I couldn't get inside the top windows, but I did find out that you can stand on the tower lights. So there I was taking a nice survey of the town from up high and suddenly this a turret gun kills me from outta nowhere. LOL

Doh this guy scared the crap outta me ^

Speaking of the turrets - they have a very slow reaction time. Seems like maybe 5 seconds. Should consider speeding up.

Anyways, back to the church. A D sniper can get up on one of the towers on the light and have a good view of the area:

This is all fine and dandy since there is a penalty for getting up there, but when I zoom it gets a little more interesting:

You can defend Cap 3 but stay in Cap 4. Granted, you can still get killed by O, but this is a tad iffy. Maybe raise the rooftops a touch? I don't think you should elminitate the possibility of getting on the towers. Keeping it difficult like it is is fair enough. And as usual goofballs in really ridiculous places adds an element of fun into the game.

Having some fun:

Also - I usually don't like it when you can't toss flags, but I think this map makes good exception to that. Do not allow flags to be tossed in this one.

If you can get the compressed files fixed (maybe .zip format instead?) I would love to playtest this map. For most of you take a moment to learn this map. It may seem discouraging at first, but like any map once you figure out where to go its fun. This map looks like a blast.

GJ, Kes!

The turret reaction time is agonizingly slow because its built in, can't change it far as i know

Thanks for the feed back foo.

To make cap 1 a tad more difficult, I'm in the process of adding a roof to the bridge just ahead of the cap. Access over the bridge will be barred...forcing o to go under it.

The clothes lines now have clip brushes.

As for being allowed to climb so high on the church. The lights on the front of the church will no longer allow a player to stand on them. I never intended access so high, for a number of reasons.

Again, thanks for the feed back.

kes, this map is gorgeous. gorgeous! like foo, i particularly admire the church (stained glass windows, omgz). i also like the different sound made by running in the tunnel behind the dettable wall; that attention to the small details really stands out.

this map is gonna rock...

I may alter the bag placements in beta 3...as beta 2 is compiling as I type smile.gif

Ickby suggested removing the ladder in the church tower. We both agreed getting inside the church would be easy enough without it. Remove the ladder yay or nay?

Bayeux_beta2

Changes;

Increased the depth of the church.

Increased the number of cells packs give.

Added a roof to the bridge close to cap 1.

Moved gren pack.

Changed cap plate texture.

Added a pack on the church balcony (inside).

Moved O 3rd spawn points.

As only the bsp has changed, that's the only file you need.
